As part of our ongoing efforts to establish Port Orchard Parrot Rescue & Sanctuary as an entity that will continue to serve the otherwise homeless parrot population in Western Washington well into the future, we are seeking three (3) or more members to serve on the Rescue & Sanctuary’s board of directors for a length of time to be determined by the Board at its first meeting.
The ideal board member candidate will have at least five (5) years experience working in management of either a successful nonprofit organization, for-profit business, and/or commensurate public service, and should live near enough to Port Orchard, Washington to attend in-person Board meetings at least four (4) times per year. Animal rescue/sanctuary experience is a plus but is not required. A sincere love of parrots and concern for their welfare is essential. Grant writing, fundraising, event organization, and volunteer program development experience will be very highly valued.
Initially the work of the board will be to establish by-laws for the nonprofit, set in motion the registration of nonprofit organization status with the State of Washington and 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service, and development of an operating budget for fiscal year 2024. Other goals, policies, and procedures will be established by the Board as needed.
The Board will oversee the work of the Executive Director of Port Orchard Parrot Rescue & Sanctuary and will ensure continuity of day-to-day operations of the the Rescue & Sanctuary in the event the Executive Director is unable to perform their duties.
