At Port Orchard Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary, every bird has a story—and some of those stories are a little more complicated than others. While many of our rescue birds are working toward happy new beginnings through adoption or foster homes, our sanctuary birds are here to stay.
So, what’s the difference between a rescue bird and a sanctuary bird?
Rescue birds are available for fostering or adoption. These are birds that, with the right care and environment, are able to transition into loving new homes.
Sanctuary birds, on the other hand, are permanent residents of Port Orchard Parrot Rescue and Sanctuary. Some were entrusted to us by their original owners with the clear understanding that they would never be rehomed. Others, due to trauma or behavioral challenges, simply aren’t ready—or may never be ready—to live successfully outside of the sanctuary.
These sanctuary birds are often the most in need of ongoing support. From specialized diets to veterinary care and enrichment, they account for the majority of our expenses. We’re committed to giving them the safe, comfortable, and loving environment they deserve.
While our retail store, Port Orchard Parrots Plus, helps fill the financial gap, we depend on the kindness of our community to keep everything running smoothly.
If you’re moved by the work we do and the lives we protect, please consider donating. Every dollar goes directly toward the care and well-being of these extraordinary birds.
